Welcome to Travels with Sheila
I am an addicted traveler. Unlike people who complain on crowded planes, I'm never happier then getting on a jet and going somewhere...anywhere. For a short time, there are no phone calls, grocery shopping, work, and everyday problems. I am off to a new experience with it's own new set of problems. Problems you would never think you'd excounter. But, that's travel. My site will add a little different input than the travel books, and, yes, I read them all. Lonely Planet is one of my bibles of travel even though my husband (who will be known throughout as the "ex-marine") and I are in our 60's. I grew up in Chicago, in an apartment, never camped, exercised or traveled beyond Lake Geneva. The "ex-marine" I'm married to vowed he would never camp or exercise again once he left the Corps.
But we started travelling - sitting around pools drinking Pina Coladas, gambling in Vegas.. the usual. Then, in our early 40's, we experimented with day hiking, learning how to ski, travelling to Europe. It didn't take long for me to became a full-blowned travel junkie.
There is much that goes into travel that we have learned the hard way that:
You need a ground mat or air mattress for trekking. We put our sleeping bags right there on the cold, hard ground. No wonder we never slept!
Hiking poles may look ridiculous but downhills are a snap compared to hiking without them. There is a reason animals have 4 legs.
Unbuckle your ski boots at lunchtime. It certainly would have eliminated those big bruises around my ankles from keeping them tight from 8am to 4pm!
Use your ATM card and forget traveler's checks.
Stoke up on a big breakfast in case the rest of the day's food is awful or non-existant.
And, most important - the peoples of the World are nice!! The great majority are always willing to help even if you don't speak their language.
Forget about timidity - travel the world and experience some of our experiences.

Your website is absolutely fabulous. I think you need to take more 'business trips' now to give us more great content and motivation to see other beautiful parts of our world.
(You also did good when you brought Joel into our world of cyberspace...)

Just dropped in to wish you a Happy Birthday. Joel told us about your site. You are a woman after my own heart. I am trying to build an online business so I can spend the rest of my life traveling. I'm addicted to it. Off to Turkey in April. Last went to Morocco. Tscany is in my soul. Greece is a close second. Unfortunately, I'd love to live in all these wonderful places. I only with I'd started when I was 20. Enjoy your birthday and enjoy your travels.
