More To Know About Visiting Singapore

Singapore is hot and humid the entire year. Casual clothes and flip-flops are worn day and night and, if you have curly hair like myself, another one of my pastimes is hourly watching to see how much my hair expands from the humidity. I usually look like a walking Brillo or SOS pad within minutes.

Hotels. Singapore has a multitude of 4**** and 5***** hotels along with many less expensive ones but one of our favorites is the Regent. We started staying at the Regent Hotel years back (got a great rate on an Internet site) but what keeps us coming back is the incredible service.

On our first stay, "ex-Marine" and I, dressed in our usual "street people" clothes, dripping with sweat, had purchased an "older" Indonesian chest in a market. We dripped up to the concierge desk, sweat beads flying and asked if they could possibly find a cardboard box for us to package it and ship through baggage on the way home.

A few hours later, it was delivered to our room, perfectly packed and the Regent refused to accept money for their hard work. That sold us. Also, the service throughout is perfection...from the maids, the constant polishing of glass, brass and floors, restaurant personnel...Fabian Lim at the front desk even remembered us even though it had been a year since our last visit. How impressive! Their personnel, are always stopping by to ask if there is anything you need...how are you today...welcome back...they are terrific. There are hotels with more lavish rooms and bathrooms, but we always feel as if we are "coming home" at the Regent.

Shopping. We've been spoiled by China and India's prices in comparison to Singapore which is why we don't usually shop here. It's expensive! but even if you don't buy, wander through the ethnic areas, window-shop on Orchard Road with all its mega-mall centers. It's impossible to visit half of them without your feet falling off. Another reason I don't shop in Singapore is the usual size of Asian women...very petite...they resemble size 0's. I can always create a mob diversion and gather a crowd by attempting to try on a pair of pants. Past the feet...then ankles...and, that's it. In the meantime, ex-Marine stands there making snide comments..."you really thought that would fit you?" He should talk!!!

A more unusual shopping center in Singapore had to be the Funan IT Mall filled with anything and everything having to do with technology on sale. There was even a World Gamemaster Tournament going on with the winner for Singapore then going on the face the World Gamemasters for the championship.

Singapore has many other interests in its beautiful city, but these are some of my favorites. If you visit, drop me a note with your favorites!
