More Mayrhofen in The Tirol

After a humungous Austrian buffet dinner: Roast Pork, different kinds of meats and potatoes, salad buffet, cooked vegetables, shrimp, two kinds of cake, mousse, ice cream and whipped cream for the cake and fruit, we were ready to exercise hard!

What do do today? If extreme sports interest you, there is Paragliding, Hang-gliding, Canyoning. There are several companies that specialize in this but I'm a coward.

Fishing, hydro speed on the Ziller River using a hydro speed board and flippers, kayaking, climbing routes, a boulder (climbing) hall with 1,300 handles, mini-golf, mountain bike tours, rafting, riding and tennis? Or, renting a bicycle to ride along the many kilometers of completely flat bike paths.

This makes it extremely difficult to decide but we have one main purpose in mind - hiking. It's up the other side of the mountain from Mayrhofen, to traverse and come down in another town. After slogging up for an hour or so, we came out into this pasture, plopped down and watched other hikers coming up and stopping to eat at an Alpen Hut close by us with a little playground for children. There was also a young couple who had carried their young baby up in a baby carrier...View image

Across the mountains with hikers following signs in all directions. ...View image... Most of it was fairly easy-going until we came to a narrow traverse, lasting approximately 30 minutes, that struck new terror into my heart. People were coming from the other direction which left very little room on the trail AND, it was straight down on one side! I did not like this trail. And to compound my fright, there were lots of very friendly people coming towards us who wanted to Schmooze! From Holland, U.K., Ottawa, Germans, Austrians...didn't they see the terror on my face? Guess not! Not only did they want to talk, but even those who didn't, always exchange a greeting...Gruss Gott....Greutzi...Gut Morgen, Hello, etc. Hey folks, I'm in hiker hell at this moment!

The trail finally widened and I rested my shaky bones at another Mountain Restaurant, ate some fruit and prepared for the trip down.

Waited at the bottom for our Zillertalbahn at a station where you pressed the button for the train to stop. And eureka, it came, it stopped and we were intact, sweaty but exhilarated with a nice hot bath waiting for us in the Hotel....
