Making Plans for Tunisia
We picked an Explore departure for March, 2004 thinking the weather would be a little warmer at that time. Tunisia has a Mediterranean climate and winters can be very cold.
Air? It was easiest for us to fly United from Chicago-Frankfurt, and then Frankfurt-Tunis on Lufthansa. Other airlines that fly there with only one stop are: Delta, Air France, American, Alitalia. Plenty of choices but no one flies to Tunis direct from the U.S., you'll have to change planes.
Visa? Not required. Passport only.
Health? Nothing compulsory, but we always keep our Hep A, Polio and Tetanus up-to-date. This would be a "bottled water" trip along with the usual "don't eat off the street."
Included ? All hotels, guides, transportation, breakfast throughout (other meals on your own) and sightseeing along with entrance fees.
Travel Insurance? This is obligatory when you travel with Explore. You must have travel insurance and show proof of it to your guide. We always buy travel insurance...there have been three experiences where we had to cancel - two medical - one, death in the family. One of the medicals, was without insurance several days before the trip, and we lost every penny.. just took once for us to learn. The others incidents were completely covered by the insurance company.
"Ancient Carthage" was a 14-day trip visiting all the worthwhile places in Tunisia. We were eliminating the camel safari and staying in a hotel in Douz as well as staying a few extra days after the tour ended on the Isle of Djerba.
