Gutsy,"Older" Women Who Adventure Travel
I'm tired of hearing whining from women and comments from others (including from my own adult children). You're/I'm too old to travel. You're/I'm too old for adventure. You're/I'm too old for what? Are we talking mentally? Physically? Nonsense. On almost every tour or vacation, I've met some extremely gutsy women who are disproving all of the above and at the ages of 55 through 80 plus! After all, isn't 50 the new 40 and, hopefully, my age bracket is the new 50.
I'd like you to meet just a few women in the over 50 crowd that are still on the adventure trail.
You may have read about Thea from South Africa in some of my previous articles. Here is another of her e-mail excerpts - "Went on an amazing bush wacking trip this weekend into darkest congo. Some of the dongas (holes in the road) were as deep as the vehicle we were driving. Had word that there was this amazing waterfall but really difficult to get to so we decided to go look for ourselves. We set off in two vehicles, I drove one with my pregnant friend female version of Rambo. The road/track just got worse and worse with em>dongas left from last rainy season, but now it was just a huge dust bowl. Went through lots of villages not a sign of water any where near them, and all very poor, children in tatters, but all ready to wave and smile and shriek Mazungas (white people)..."
Mary celebrated her 80th birthday trekking in Japan.
Anne. from Colorado. was part of the group during our ill-fated Siberia Trek. Nothing was too tough or daunted Anne. Why should it since she ran the beyond belief Pikes Peak Marathon (rotator cuff surgery and all) every year and trekked faster than a speeding bullet.

Jan, from California, who after a very serious car accident still managed to carry chimpanzees on her back during a jungle walk and bushwhacked up those tough mountains to commune with the Gorillas in Uganda.
Our latest trip was to the Baltic States. Kathryn, age 79, was part of this group and still treks and hikes in the mountains of California on a daily basis. This tiny lady left us all eating her dust when she headed out on the trail.
Isn't that enough? What's keeping you from joining the leagues of Gutsy "Older" Women Who Travel?...
