Enjoying Las Vegas On Very Little Money

When our adult children visit Las Vegas, they stay at Bellago, The Venetian, Caesars Palace spending up to and over $200 a night. They also eat at Spago, see multiple shows and gamble.

ex-Marine (husband, Steve) and I visit Las Vegas looking for the least expensive (decent) hotel we can find and food bargains. I don't gamble at all (absolutely detest losing even one dollar) and ex-Marine risks very little. In his younger days, ex-Marine was one of those people whose gambling loses helped build Las Vegas into what it is today and no longer wants to contribute to its success! Not that Vegas needs him! They have a 60 BILLION DOLLAR complex going up over the next 10 years between Monte Carlo and Bellagio with, I think, 15 casinos and condos.

It's been over five years since our last visit. Time for an impromptu two-day trip to see the changes, have some fun and spend as little as humanly possible.

Air? There are many fabulous packages including air and hotel but we had a head start with some United Airlines coupons good for $100 off any price ticket. TED had a roundtrip for $214 per person from Chicago to Las Vegas which made our ticket $114! Such a deal! The only kicker was the time of the flight...6:25am...but the price was right. THEN, two days later, United advertised a round-trip fare for $158. You win some...you lose some...

Funjet Vacations offers complete travel packages to exciting Las Vegas.

Hotel? I would have happily stayed in a Best Western or Circus Circus but our young adults carried on and showed us prices at some more luxurious hotels (including the Monte Carlo) for not much more. I Googled my finger off on all my favorite sites: Travelocity, Orbitz, Hotel.com, etc. but found the best price for the Monte Carlo on their website. (You need patience and determination...a big strongpoint of mine.) The Monte Carlo had a package price of $65/night including all taxes, one 2-for-1 buffet breakfast, and one 2-for-1 drink voucher.

The travel costs now totaled $358...(I know...our friends who are reading this are "hysterical with laughter..."Can you believe Steve and Sheila?...Las Vegas, here we come...
