Easy Bicycling Around Lindau, Germany and Lake Constance

It's so easy and comfortable to cycle around Lake Constance for one day or a week. A leisure bicyclist could complete the entire 268 km/166 circuit in 7 days without any problem and even three days if you are one of those 80 km/50 mile/day bicyclists. One of the many websites to look at is Bodensee-Radweg who will arrange tours including breakfast as well as transport bags.

Another way of doing the circuit is to base yourself in Lindau and use the wonderful public transport facilities. Ride until you are tired and then hop the train or ferry back to Lindau or Bregenz. Don't have to worry about transporting heavy luggage, unpacking and packing or finding suitable accommodation.

Bike rentals are available at Unger's Fahrradverleih, Insel Graben 14 (tel. 08382/943688), close to the Lindau train station. The price ranges from 6-8 Euros ($7.80-$10) per day. This outfitter is open seven days a week with an early closing on Sunday. This is just one of the may bicycle rental companies and it may also be possible to rent a bike from whatever hotel you stay at.

a few of the big Lindau lake steamers

A fleet of 35 steamers ply Lake Constance in all directions daily. Lindau on the German side. Bregenz in Austria and St. Gallen in Switzerland are just a few of the many stops that you can hope on and off at. Make use of the boat, train and bus systems and knock yourself out riding your bicycle, stopping for lunch and sightseeing along the well-marked route, perhaps a schnaps and have one of the most enjoyable, easy bicycling experiences in your life.
