Asia Can Be Affordable

Do you want to visit Thailand? Laos? Cambodia? Do you think that a tour to any or all of these places is beyond your means? Think again. Today's Chicago Tribune detailed a deluxe tour offered by the Art Institute of Chicago with accommodations at five-star hotels, internal flights, many meals, entrance fees, etc. at the staggering price of $7,740 a person! And...this doesn't include international airfare...

ex-Marine (husband, Steve) and I could never afford trips like these. If you can, go for it. Instead, I completely recommend you browse through the Adventure Center offerings on the sidebar of this site. They have 94 different tours operated by several tour operators into Southeast Asia.

Pick and choose. Put together your own combinations, ranging from 5 days to 4 weeks in Asia, at an average price of $1,319 for a 17-day tour of Laos and Cambodia. Steve and I have taken 16 trips organized by Adventure Center and give them a whole-hearted recommendation. Once again, we've paid our own way on each and every tour. Read about two separate Adventure Center tours, Cambodia (currently running daily along with videos) and Laos both in-depth country tours. Just think where you can go and what you can do when you economize on the land costs. You could take three trips for the price of the one deluxe.

And, "cheap" or "inexpensive" with Adventure Center, does not been staying in hovels. The great majority of the time you'll stay in small family owned hotels, pensions and hotels. Very occasionally, there is a "basic" place but you'll always know how "basic" it will be before you book a tour, spelled out by the tour operators.

Meals are not included but food is downright cheap in Southeast Asia. There are many other individual Thailand articles on TravelsWithSheila. Surf through them for more information. Look into the thousands of offerings (literally everywhere in the world), find the least expensive flight possible and have a wonderful time exploring these interesting and historic countries.
